Re: Kaleidoscope of Dance and regular dance classes
Dear Parents and Students,
After much consideration, I decided to cancel our May 30 & 31 “Kaleidoscope of Dance” performances. I needed to have 10-12 weeks lead-in time to produce a Kaleidoscope performance, and what with all the unknowns regarding timelines, etc. etc., cancellation was my sorrowful decision.
The teachers and you students have put in such a lot of hard work. This decision was very painful for me.
Regular dance classes are suspended from now until May 31, per Governor Ige’s directive of “stay at home”. We will presumably return to dance in June. Please check my website for updates.
We do have online Zoom classes, with more being added. Access to a calendar is through Parent’s Barre. If you need the password, email me at islanddanceacademy@yahoo.com
Zoom class participants will receive an email invitation from the instructor (Sara, Zoi, Megan, Kassidy, Kassie, Elyse).
In the meantime, please do your warm-ups/barre exercises at home, and practice your dances, so you keep in shape.
Some classes will continue to practice their dances just for fun, others will work on technique. We will all be dancing again in no time, I hope!
Thank you for your understanding.

Re: Coronavirus
Dear Parents and Students,
I wanted to let you know what steps the teachers and cleaners are implementing to prevent the spread of this virus and what we will do if it appears. I want you to be confident about continuing your classes here at IDA. You may check my website islanddanceacademy.com or email me for updates at islanddanceacademy@yahoo.com
All classes are using Clorox wipes or their equivalent to wipe down barres, door handles, common surfaces and objects.
Any student who exhibits coughing, runny nose or symptoms of fever will be asked to return, or to stay, home.
Any student who has traveled to high risk areas such as China, Italy, Korea or Iran will be asked to stay away for a two week period.
Wash hands before and after dance class, to prevent the spread of germs.
At this time, we have no indication that anyone at IDA has been exposed to the virus.
I will be monitoring the DOE bulletins for school updates, and will mirror their decisions.
News today: UH will hold all their classes online after their Spring Break. UH’s Spring Break is the same as the public schools.
The Dept of Health recommends the following:
Get vaccinated against the flu, if you haven’t already (ages 6 months and older).
Stay home when sick.
Wash hands with soap and water for 20 seconds (2 singings of “Happy Birthday”), especially after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing and before eating and after going to the bathroom.
Alcohol based hand sanitizers will work also.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
Again, please check my website for updates.
